Presented annually at the Osprey, Best of Boxwood is a mix of roots and folk music with an overlay of classical, all played with the precision and technique of classical.
Boxwood festival director Chris Norman leads the performance with flute, small pipes and voice. Each year, a group of musicians hailing from all over the world join Chris adding zest and spice to the mix of songs, instruments and music.
Boxwood programs combine originality, intelligence, fun, and sheer mastery that have garnered respect from audiences, presenters and colleagues alike in North America, Europe and Asia.
Hailed by The New Yorker as “a flute player of spectacular and imaginative virtuosity,” Chris Norman has contributed to groups and productions as diverse as The Baltimore Consort, Skyedance, Helicon, Chatham Baroque, Concerto Caledonia, as well as Hollywood soundtracks like the Oscar winning Titanic and seven solo recordings. His influential work as a performer, composer, recording artist, educator and director of the Boxwood Festival and Workshop has played a significant role in reviving the flute in traditional Scottish and Canadian music.
The Best of Boxwood is presented by Musique Royale and tours throughout the province after the Boxwood Festival and Workshop each July in Lunenburg.
